On Saturday November 22, weather impeded the arrival of the large number of planes but it did not dampen the level of enthusiasm to continue to promote and enjoy the Corryong Airport facilities.

Corryong is located in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains at the pure end of the Murray River. It a place where the people are friendly and the environment is pristine. The November Fly-in was a special tribute to the Southern Cloud 50th anniversary, an incident that changed aviation history forever.

Although flying wasn’t an option for some, pilots drove from as far as Melbourne and Canberra to participate in the Southern Cloud Tribute tour and dinner. More than 30 pilots and their friends sampled the Pure hospitality of the Upper Murray, promising a return trip over the summer.

“I really had a great trip; the scenery was superb & thoroughly enjoyed the Southern Cloud Tribute bus tour & dinner. To be honest I didn’t really want to go home, Adelaide is so flat & dry in comparison to the beautiful Upper Murray. I will definitely be back.” said Stephen McGuiness, Pilot from South Australia.

The Southern Cloud Tribute Fly-in at Corryong was considered a success and a most enjoyable time, and for those that were unable to make it, vowed to visit another time.

Corryong intends to continue to host future fly-ins at the Corryong Airport to cater for aviators and visitors seeking the pure environment of the Upper Murray.
