Creating a new storybook for past and present students Fifty years have past since Elynne Mitchell wrote the children's story book favourite, The Silver Brumby. It was also a time in the Upper Murray when more than 100 students were enrolled at the local Corryong Pre-School, the area was booming on the back of the Australian sheep and high country cattle men were in strong demand. The Upper Murray and Corryong township was a hive of activity, the Snowy Hydro Scheme was well under way, business was thriving. In 2009 the Corryong Pre-School is celebrating its 50th year and wishes to invite all past and present students for a reunion and story-telling exchange experience and celebration that will take place in May 2009. "Corryong Pre-School was a delightful place to work, so much so, that I ended up working there for more than 37 years," said former Corryong Pre-School Director Edna Anderson. Today, art smocks, paint pots, building blocks, nursery rhymes, dress ups and learning through play all remain the essence of good old-fashioned fun and all time favourites of Pre-School life in Corryong. "We'd love to hear from all the foundation parents and families who probably even have grandchildren of their very own," said Edna Anderson. Edna Anderson together with Towong Shire Council and the 2008-2009 Pre-School Committee, plan to host a community celebration and to develop a series of "Where are they now" stories. Past and present students are invited to make their contributions by obtaining a specially developed form to capture the special moments and memories. For a copy of the 50th Anniversary Stories form, students and families of the Corryong Kindergarten are encouraged to contact Gerard Van Emmerick, Manager Community Services, by telephoning
