Autumn is a golden time in the picturesque Mitta Valley; full of mystery, romance and incredible scenery. The weeping willows, majestic gums and deciduous trees paint a golden rainbow upon the mirrored top of the Mitta Mitta River. It's a place for the artist, photographer, romantic and for those who just love the wind in their hair as they travel along the Omeo highway; a golden experience.

The Golden Mitta Valley

There are some 86 species of birdlife in the Mitta Valley, which is no surprise. It is a great place to nest and call home. The local communities welcome visitors with open arms and offer a range of country-style events that you just don't get in the major regional centres or cities any more. It's non-commercial; it's simply a golden experience that should be shared with family and friends. It isn't a step back in time, rather a step in current time to recharge the batteries and to remember what matters most.

The Mitta Valley community members extend a warm invitation to visitors to the Mighty Mitta Muster on Sunday, March 9. Local craftsmen and women, equestrian competitions, whip crackers and gumboot throwers will all be competing for fun and lots of big belly laughs in the golden Mitta Valley.

The Laurel Hotel at Mitta will host some top live entertainment over the long weekend including Kathryn Seccold and Rustik, and Danny Phegan. The Laurel Hotel is a great place to kick back on the banks of the Mitta River to listen to the water flow by and the birds sing in the trees.

Fishermen and women should drop a line in the Mitta or take a short trip to Dartmouth; a charming village that offers a new range of local arts, crafts and galleries. On Saturday night of the March long weekend, visitors are encouraged to put on their bunny suits for an entertaining Saturday night at the Dartmouth Tavern. Saturday night is "change your identity" night, so costumes are more than welcome, in fact, they’re almost mandatory.

There's heaps of fun planned for visitors and locals alike but be warned, by the end of the night it's hard to pick who's who — the demarcation between visitor and local disappears, it's just people having a good time!

Easter Sunday is a fun day; there's a live band, a Back of the Ute second-hand sale, plus all the yummy cake and slice stalls.
