MEDIA RELEASE, October 24, 2008

The Tallangatta 50s Festival mascot, Katie Scott, 4, will be travelling in style when she arrives at the 2008 Tallangatta 50s Festival this weekend.

A 1959 pink Cadillac will take Katie, rock and rollers, and 50s enthusiasts back to a time when cruising the main drag of town was all so cool, and the chicks really digged it. It will also be a fabulous opportunity for young families to experience a slice of life from the 50s era in the historic fifties township of Tallangatta.

"I've been looking for a car like this for a long time and when I saw it in Queensland, I just had to have it. It's like driving your couch around, a real cruising experience," said Leigh Anstis, Cadillac owner.

Leigh together with over 50 other Classic Car owners will take their dream machines cruising to Tallangatta this Sunday to compete in the Classic Car Competition. The Pink Cadillac is 390 cubic inch, 4-speed auto, just over 6.5 metres long, 2.05 metres wide, complete with 44' high fins at the rear. The car is 6477mm in length compared to the average Holden Commodore that is 4884mm.

"She handles the road like she's in control, and reaches 19 litres /100 km or 12 mile per gallon and weighs in at 2295 kg, in the 50s she would have been considered a bit like a space ship of the future, complete with electric windows," says Leigh.

The main street of Tallangatta will be lined with all the classic cars of the 50s, 50s fashions and non-stop world class entertainment by metro bands, The Speedsters and the Forever Everly Brothers. 2008 has also attracted record Rock and Roll clubs from all over the country with the Saturday night dance almost sold out.

"I'm absolutely thrilled with this year's line up of entertainment and have noticed a major increase in people who are making their way into town from places like Canberra, Queensland, Tumut and Melbourne. It's an all weekender event however, Sunday is the main day and the entertainment promises to be tops," said Cath Cavanagh, Event Coordinator.

Tallangatta retailers have dressed their shops in a genuine 50s theme, more than 100 market stalls have been booked, compere extraordinaire, Sharyn Bilston, will host the Free community concert in the park on Saturday, the Saturday night dance is almost a sell out, and Sunday will be non-stop Classic Cars, markets, music and dancing around the clock.
